Katie is your typical American girl that lives with her typical American family in Malibu, California. As Katie lives her life, there is a girl an entire world away, in China, that is also living a typical Chinese life for a girl. Ling, however, lives a much less privilaged life than her counterpart in America. Having been adopted at a young age by a farmer and his family, Ling lived with a disfigurement that limited her social life. When the two girls finally come together, they discover what how alike they really are.
