David Callaway is a psychologist who moves his daughter to upstate New York to recuperate from her mother's chilling suicide. Instead of healing though, Emily develops dark circles under her eyes, mutilates her favorite doll, and has an imaginary friend named Charlie. But David isn't so sure that Charlie is an innocent childhood development as the disturbing behaviour continues. When David invites a female friend over for dinner, Emily's behaviour becomes even more frightening.
