Rodney Copperbottom has grown up watching his hero/inventer Bigweld on TV talk about making a difference in the world. When he grows up, Rodney takes his invention, and tools, on his big trip to the city to show Bigweld himself what he can do. But when Rodney arrives in the city he learns that Bigweld is missing, and his vision of helping make the world a better place has been lost admidst the greed for profits by current CEO Ratchet. Standing up for the robots everywhere, Rodney confronts Ratchet on his own turf.
