A modern day retelling of the classic HG Wells tale. Ray Ferrier is a down and out mechanic who is just getting by while his kids are with his ex-wife. When they come to visit for the holidays, strange things begin to happen. An unusual electrical storms sweeps through the area followed by more unusual earth movement. Suddenly, a strange 3-legged mechanical beast springs from the ground and begins to kill innocent victims. Ray gathers his children together to outrun the carnage that is an invasion from outer space. Based on the popular childrens book from Chris Van Allsburg, viewers are drawn to a doubting boys home on Christmas Eve. As he reviews his evidence for the non-existance of Santa, there is still the seed of uncertainty that he wants to believe. As he falls asleep waiting for Santa to (maybe) show up, the sounds of the night wake him up. Looking out the window, he sees the Polar Express stops in front of his house. Wanting to believe in Santa he goes aboard to begin one of the most intense adventures of his short life.
