Burt Reynolds stars as Lewis Madlock, a man who feels the only true way of achieving masculinity is challenging nature. Lewis talks three of his friends into a white water rafting trip in the Appalachians. When they get there they talk some locals into driving their cars downstream, these men warn them of the trips difficulty. Avoiding the warning the men are off. The first day goes as planned and the men are exhilerated, but on the second day two of the men get seperated. When they are held at gunpoint by hillbillies the fun begins.
