Marty the Zebra is one of the stars of the New York zoo. When he has another birthday, a mid-life crisis of sorts hits him and he resolves to escape the zoo to live in the wild. After an unsuccessful attempt in the city, Marty and his friends Alex the Lion, Gloria the Hippo, and Melman the Giraffe are shipped to a game reserve in Kenya. On the way owever, the ship is hijacked by a group of maniacal penguins who change their destination to Antarctica. But the aniamals are stranded on Madagascar on the way.
