A puppeteer named Craig (John Cusack) takes a new filing job. The job just happens to be on the seventh and a half floor of the building. Craig although married hits on a co-worker Maxine, who is uninterested until he finds a portal in the office that leads into John Malkovich's head. Maxine makes a business out of it selling trips for 200 dollars. When Craig's wife Lotte takes a trip and falls in love with Maxine. Although JM is trying to stop them Craig sees the portal as the only way back to his wife.
