Leonard Shelby's wife was raped and murdered, during the attack he was injured. He now has a rare and untreatable form of memory loss. He has sworn vengeance on his wife's killer but the road ahead is going to be tough considering he cannot make new memories. He remembers everything up to the attack, but he cannot remember what happened 15 minutes ago. He devises a system of notes, photos and tattoos for important clues, but he still struggles with his handicap as he tries to find vengeance for his wife.
