Maverick(Mel Gibson) is a gambler, but he would rather con you for your money than fight you for it. He is traveling to a winner takes all poker game that is going to start in a few days, but he is 3,000 short of the entry fee. He tries to win some, collect a few debts and recover a reward. Along the way he teams up with a woman gambler, who is more interested in stealing than winning. But in the end one thing is for sure, everybody is trying to con everybody.
