Robert DeNiro stars as Lorenzo Anello, a bus driver and the father of a son he is trying to keep out the mafia. When his son, Calogero(C), witnesses a murder by a gangster, Sonny, he decides to honor the oath of the streets and not talk to the cops. Sonny then befriends him and Calogero begins to get into the life. When C meets a girl and that girl happens to be black even though he thinks she is one of the "great ones". Between his friends his father and Sonny, C must now decide what he wants in his life.
