Bob Harris is an American washed up film actor visiting Tokyo to do some commercials. While there he meets Charlotte, the young wife of a photographer who is visiting. They seem to make nice traveling companions, Bob is putting up with a mediocre marriage, and Charlotte is just trying to find her place. As they experience Tokyo and their relationship deepens they both realize that there will be a time when they will have to say goodbye.
