The English Patient is the story of four characters who find themselves in a ruined monastery in Italy at the close of WWII. Slowly they begin to reveal themselves to each other and in the process they learn the true identity of an unknown survivor of a plane crash. The unknown man is a mapmaker who is used to chart the Sahara Desert. Through many flashbacks it is revealed that as the war unfolded he entered into a world of love, betrayal, and politics.
