A succesful author, Mort Rainey(Johnny Depp), finds himself in a very difficult period in his life. He found his wife sleeping with someone else and is now going through a divorce. To get away Mort moves to a remote cabin in the country. One day a man confronts him at the cabin saying that Mort stole one of his stories and just changed the ending. Now with the man threatning everything that he has he must find his original which was written first or stop the man before more people get hurt.
